Critics Consensus

The rebooted Red Dawn lacks the original's topicality, but at least pays tribute in delivering the same short shrift to character development and general logic.

This has to be the year's most pointless remake: a boring and badly acted reboot of John Milius's gung-ho red-scare actioner from 1984. Go to Full Review

With any luck this will be the spanner that finally jams up the works of Hollywood's dangerously overcranked '80s remake Wurlitzer. Go to Full Review

Filled with corny speeches and uncharismatic performances, there’s not one iota of dynamism to this dull action fodder. Go to Full Review

Throughout the movie you’ll find huge gaps in logic, glaring plot holes, and numerous moments where all you can do is bury your face in your hands. Go to Full Review

With its over-hyped bravado, laughably machismo dialogue, and stilted performances, the film often feels like a high school acting class Go to Full Review

Karl N @RT02655090 2d I thought it was a good remake. Unless you just don’t think it should have been remade I don’t get the hate. See more Unimpressed G @RT51541674 3d I remember seeing this film the year it came out. It was a bleak time, and one that seemed to make sense. But because of this film, I went back and watched the first film with Swayze and Sheen. The characters in that film were written far more organically, without over-complicating any kind of relationships and such. The honest fact was: it was written as a piece on the harsh realities war can impose on the invaded, as well as the invaders; it painted a world that is torn by necessity for conquest and survival, as opposed to it all just being violent explosions and gunfire. This Red Dawn, while starring a stellar cast, delivered poorly, with an unlikeable portrayal of Matt (Josh Peck), and also just very hollow portrayals of its predecessor characters. The film alone could've been an honest and true successor, but wound up falling quite flat, unfortunately. If you want a better version of this story, go watch the first one; far more compelling, yet simple -but effective overall. See more Gerald H @RT00885100 Jan 31 This is nonsense patheon. Why would a war start in a tiny village? Where will they attack in the next reboot? In a pigpen? See more Steven B @RT77676529 Dec 8 This movie was a potent of a possible future. One that we can find amusing now,BUT look at the Muslim takeover of actual British city's and then look at a few states in America and a few [ so far] city's. I liked the movie, acting was not the best, but all the stars are,and stated so. I see most who did not like this movie as extreme liberals.
