Assassin Robert Rath (Sylvester Stallone) arrives at a funeral to kill a prominent mobster, only to witness rival hired gun Miguel Bain (Antonio Banderas) complete the job for him -- with grisly results. Horrified by the murder of innocent bystanders, Rath decides to take one last job and then return to civilian life. But finding his way out of the world of contract killing grows ever more dangerous as Rath falls for his target, Electra (Julianne Moore), and becomes a marked man himself.

Diferente de muitos de seus personagens explosivos, aqui temos um homem marcado pelo passado, cansado e tentando encontrar uma saída de uma vida que já não lhe pertence. E então surge Antonio Banderas. Miguel Bain é praticamente o oposto de Rath. Onde Rath calcula, Bain se diverte. Onde Rath demonstra experiência, Bain demonstra ousadia. Ele não quer apenas matar: quer provar que é melhor. Essa rivalidade é uma das grandes forças do filme. Julianne Moore também funciona muito bem como Electra, trazendo inteligência e personalidade para uma personagem que poderia facilmente ter sido apenas o interesse romântico da história. O problema é que o roteiro não consegue acompanhar completamente o potencial desse trio. Banderas does a pretty good job as the unhinged Miguel and Stallone (though has a very narrow range as usual) is passable as the morose Robert.
