As a lifelong fan of this cast, and this franchise, I was deeply dissatisfied with this film. Despite one or two cool moments, and a re-uniting of a much beloved cast with great chemistry, Nemesis plays more like a lengthy episode of TNG than it does a movie. And it would not have been one of the good episodes, this would have been one of the worst ones. Also this movie's script does not have enough content to fill the runtime of even one TNG episode. Its basic premise, that Captain Picard’s skills and expertise are due to his DNA rather than his years of training and experience, is fundamentally flawed. And as the film tries to take a stand on that fragile foundation, it stumbles through a half-baked plot with the weight of the storyline being dumped on a young Tom Hardy’s underdeveloped shoulders. There are some entertaining moments, but when you look at what other movies Star Trek: Nemesis was competing with in 2002, it’s no wonder it failed to perform at the box office.
