See more Chris P @Xiao_Proxies Apr 13 Annabelle expands on one of the creepiest elements introduced in The Conjuring : the infamous haunted doll. The film does manage to deliver a disturbing atmosphere, with several well-built tension sequences where the camera lingers on Annabelle just long enough to make you uneasy. The retro setting and demonic undertones also help to establish a solid horror mood. Unfortunately, once the fear wears off, the weaknesses become very noticeable. The story is formulaic, relying on jumpscares instead of deeper psychological horror, and the characters lack emotional depth. While the world-building around the demon is interesting, the plot never fully explores Annabelle herself, making the film feel more like a generic possession story than a true expansion of her legend. It's not a disaster : there are good moments, especially for fans of the Conjuring universe, but the film falls short of reaching the impact and quality of its predecessor. The tension, the suspense, and the vulnerability of the main character made this movie terrifying and awesome at the same time. I had so much fun watching this movie, and it's definitely one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. I definitely recommend it for horror, thriller, and paranormal fans, and for fans of The Conjuring series of movies! See more Ollie W @RT90619198 Nov 24 The acting is decent, the soundtrack is ok. It starts off well enough but doesn’t go anywhere interesting. Certainly a few scares but the story wears thin around halfway through. Though it doesn’t have a long running time the film does start to drag just because the storyline is so tedious and uninspired: an utterly unoriginal a stack of horror cliches. The ending sucks and didn’t strike me as believable. Watch Annabelle: Creation instead, its far better. See more Read all reviews
