Arthur Christmas (2011)

Critic Consensus: Aardman Animations broadens their humor a bit for Arthur Christmas, a clever and earnest holiday film with surprising emotional strength.

Movie Info

The 3D, CG-animated family comedy Arthur Christmas, an Aardman production for Sony Pictures Animation, at last reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to every child's question: 'So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?' The answer: Santa's exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic - a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns. -- (C) Sony Picturesmore

Audience Reviews for Arthur Christmas

Inventive Brit bit about the life at the North Pole where the Claus family is at odds with one another, each with their own particular and opposing viewpoints. Can they leave their differences and unite to save Christmas? Of course they do, its a Christmas movie f'cryingoutloud. The fun is in the getting there, and there's plenty of that here. You will believe a reindeer can fly. No, really. They can. Its how Santa gets around. Whatta you mean you don't believe?!?

Humor, wit and humanity abound in this bright Christmas gem. It's a wonderfully innovative Christmas story with fantastic animation and great voice talent. I found it quite enjoyable.

Though lacking the technical wizardry of other contemporary animated movies, Arthur Christmas is tightly scripted, creative and witty in surprising ways (which itself is unsurprising given the Aardman legacy), and emotionally sophisticated. Likely the best under-the-radar animated movie of the last several years.
