Movie Info

In 18th century Romania, Rayne (a girl with a human mother and vampire father) possesses superhuman strength but a soft side for humans. She decides to find her vampire father who is the powerful vampire Kagan. On her journey, she is befriended by two vampire hunters and learns that there are three Talisman organs -- a heart, an eye and a rib from her ancestor vampire, Beliar -- which Kagan covets, that will make him so powerful that he will throw the earth into darkness and vampires will rule

Just when you thought camp was dead, along comes this bizarre cross between a Tarantino knockoff and a Hammer horror film.

Who is Uwe Boll and why does he hate moviegoers so? The German hack, the one-man Blitzkrieg of Bad, is the worst filmmaker in the movies today.

It's time to start paying attention to the oeuvre of German director Uwe Boll. At this rate, he'll become the Ed Wood of this new movie century.

After Rayne breaks out of the circus, it's a simple story, really, about a mixed-up girl who wants to slay her father.

At the rate Boll's improving, he'll achieve a film worthy of a thumbs up rating sometime late next decade.

BloodRayne is quite cheesy -- the costumes resemble something out of the cosplay closet, and the dialogue is often appalling.

So how does a filmmaker bounce back from an almost universally reviled action-horror mistake? Well, if your name is Uwe Boll, you don't.

All in all, not as bad as you'd suspect and certainly serviceable for all who love the bloody, low-budget vamping gone wild.

The supporting cast is mind-melting: Michael Madsen is as out of place in this Medieval milieu as Meat Loaf in a hoop skirt, and Meat Loaf is just out of place.

BloodRayne is a movie of unconnected plot dots. In the hands of director Uwe "German Tax Dodge" Boll, a simple sword and sorcery story with vampiric overtones turns into genre-jumping attempts to find an audience.

It'd be a stretch to call the movie good, but at least it's fun-bad.

If I thought for a minute this Roquefort-riddled camp-fest was as intentionally ridiculous, stilted, witless and over-the-top as it actually is, I'd congratulate Boll.

Audience Reviews for Bloodrayne

Terrible film. How does Ben Kingsly live with himself? Has he no shame? The script seems like it came right out of an 8th-grade student's creative writing journal. Bleh! (Still, it gets a star because it's not as bad as director Uwe Boll's insulting film, "Alone in the Dark".)

Bloodrayne is clearly an unfocused, poorly made action horror film with some impressive names attached to it. Bloodrayne can be regarded as an exercise in bad filmmaking 101. Although not as awful as the two other entries, this film is still pretty bad. With a paper thin story, a poor cast and very poor directing, Bloodrayne is a film that delivers mediocrity in spades. I thought that the film was pretty pointless and didn't deliver anything exciting or fun in an action horror film. As far as I'm concerned, the sequels to Underworld were far better than this train wreck. With awful acting complimenting his awful directing, Uwe Boll has created one of the worst horror flicks. You won't find anything of value with this film. This is just a poorly made film that never should have been made. The film lacks of a real inventive story mixed with bad effects and a very poorly written script really don't help. This film is a waste of time, and is one of the horror films that had the misfortune to watch. If you want a good action horror film to watch Underworld instead. I can't believe that Ben Kingsley agreed to star in this; luckily for him he would make Shutter Island with the great Martin Scorsese. Don't go in with high hopes for this one because this is one awful that truly is one to avoid. Uwe Boll has sunk to a new, and he clearly can't make a good film out of a video game. Fans of the game will surely hate this one.
