The now-brotherless Ellwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd) is finally out of prison, attempting to reunite the old band and find a few new partners in crime (John Goodman), (J. Evan Bonifant). In this sequel to the original "Blues Brothers" comedy/musical, Ellwood battles the Chicago police, sings and dances his way out of numerous sticky situations, and manages to get the old band on the road for a hair-raising adventure.

Ngl, I came into this super skeptical. The original Blues Brothers is one of my favorite films, and I really wasn't sure how they were gonna do this. Honestly, this could have been much worse. Dan Akroyd still nails the role, but this just doesn't feel right without John. It was still funny, and they captured the right tone and energy of the original. Was also kinda hoping this one would have a pretty new story, but it mostly was a recycle. Not that I hated that, but I was still hoping for something else.

I think they did a pretty great job of making a sequel to a movie without one of its main characters. I enjoyed this just as much as the first film. Not quite as funny, but the music is spectacular.

While the Blues Child is a terrible addition to the film, he’s acted poorly and written poorly and does little to contribute to the film, and the whole witch climax is a bit stupid, the heart and soul of the blues brothers is still there, with some decent laughs, great music, and- of course -no blues brothers movie would be complete without an amazing car chase scene.

Cringeworthy sums it up best. One will have a hard time finding a direct sequel that compares as badly to the original as Blues Brothers 2000 does to its predecessor. While it may not be a horrible film for someone who’s never seen the original or is a big fan of blues music, one can’t remove their Blues Brothers tinted glasses to watch this. The comedic bits were far too hokey and ridiculous. There may have been some far fetched scenes in the original but there was still a level of practicality to them... this had magic, people flying, and driving a car under water. All that aside, everything else is just a soulless rehash.
