In the San Fernando Valley in 1977, teenage busboy Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg) gets discovered by porn director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds), who transforms him into adult-film sensation Dirk Diggler. Brought into a supportive circle of friends, including fellow actors Amber Waves (Julianne Moore), Rollergirl (Heather Graham) and Reed Rothchild (John C. Reilly), Dirk fulfills all his ambitions, but a toxic combination of drugs and egotism threatens to take him back down.

The Scorsese films that are about crime or about high finance contain sexiness and irony that is implicit and seductive; this is not really the case in Boogie Nights. But still, this is a movie of such style and propulsive power.

PTA at only 26 years old made his masterpiece. Eccentric characters, chaotic scenes, and stupid decisions. The 70’s and 80’s vibes are exceptional and the cinematography is stunning. PTA’s camerawork is inspired, inventive, and flawless. The cast is unbelievably talented and all give stellar performances. The hand picked soundtrack is banging. The use of Jesse’s Girl is arguably the greatest use of music in any film ever. An audacious, action packed, balls to the wall masterpiece that will be remembered and renowned throughout the history of American cinema.
