Bruno Davert, an engineer worker in the papermaking industry, is a victim of the relocation of his company. He has been on the dole for almost two years, alternating between moments of self-awareness and depression, and confronting the humiliation of job interviews. One day he has a somewhat drastic idea: to treat the labor market like any other market, in other words to do everything possible to eliminate all competition. He obtains the names of the unemployed engineers living in his region

It's a film better suited for the talents of the Coen Brothers.
Garcia - reminiscent of a young Jack Lemmon - puts the hang into dog perfectly and the script will bite your arm off.
It's a black comedy with plenty to say, much of it about the self serving righteousness of Bruno's bourgeois peers
The darkly serious tone of the script, Costa-Gavras' crisp direction and the dead-on acting (pun intended) make Le couperet a very intelligent and hilarious satire.
Fantastic little film. Dark humor and social commentary at it's best.
