Despite the chances not taken in terms of storytelling and filmmaking, there are also plenty of reasons to be excited about Dear White People. Simien took what started out as a crowd-funded film and turned it into a pop culture phenomenon.

Dear White People deploys a full arsenal of intellectual weaponry to talk about race and much more in a way most can't or won't. It is hilarious. It is brilliant. It is vital. And it's Simien's first outing. More please.

Racist propaganda. Imagine if they made a show called "Dear Black People", and it was about white people criticizing black people. "You're not allowed to dress as any white character at our Halloween party, here's a list of acceptable black people you may dress-up as." Are you kidding me? That show wouldn't last 2 hours on Netflix, they'd pull it for being racist. But I guess this one is acceptable because the folks over at Netflix got brainwashed into the foolish and false belief that "you can't be racist without power". WRONG. This media is proof that anyone can be racist regardless of power. Take this quote from the show as an example, "kids are being shot by cops for being black.". Is anyone dumb enough to believe that? That there are cops out there hunting down black children and shooting them for literally no other reason than their skin color? That's never happened even one time. But ig they don't expect their targeted audience to fact check anything.

The movie wants to be a documentary. It is racial propaganda. It isn't a comedy or drama. It's just an angry messy racist rhetoric. I love comedy movies and racial jokes if done right. But non was there. Even the narrator sounded angry. It isn't even satire. Just judging all white Americans for what a few do. If a white person came out with a title called dear white people it would be called racist immediately and hated by critics.
