The documentary focuses upon two world-class California surfers: Patrick O'Connell, short board expert, and Robert "Wingnut" Weaver, long board surfer. The film follows them as they travel to Costa Rica, Hawaii, France, South Africa, Australia, Fiji, Bali, Java and Alaska in search of the perfect wave. Also included are twenty minutes of acrobatic surfing using

Not as exciting as the first film, this one can't decide whether it's a tarvelogue, an adventure, or National Geographic documentary.
Had The Endless Summer II stuck to its subject, it would be a pleasant diversion. But it is weighed down with frivolous travel vignettes that are as dull as they are cute and contrived.
Pretty hard to sit through, because Brown's incessant beach boy prattle is endlessly irritating.
Although the movie runs 95 minutes, it contains nothing much in the way of information about surfing.
One of those rare bits of movie marginalia that are entirely without merit and, still, a pleasure to sit through.
[A] beautifully shot and exhilarating film that gets short shrift on this barebones DVD presentation...
Bruce Brown's loving surfing documentary sequel.
Some of it is fascinating to see, some of it is fun to hear about, but inevitably, you end up with a few earfuls more than you bargained for.
Through it all, Brown cracks wise and simply tries to provide an entertaining two hours. The film falters occasionally, but he pretty much achieves his goal.
It doesn't quite have the simple charm of the original, but it's still a very entertaining documentary with some great photography and amusing narration. Good editing.
July 23, 2009This movie is awesome and I like it a lot. Actually just thinking about these movies makes me want to revisit them and I probably will soon.
