Sworn to preserve intergalactic order, the Green Lantern Corps has existed for centuries. Its newest recruit, Hal Jordan, is the first human to join the ranks. The Green Lanterns have little regard for humans, who have thus far been unable to harness the powers of the ring each member wears. But Jordan, a gifted and cocky test pilot, may be the corps' only hope when a new enemy called Parallax threatens the universal balance of power.

Critics Consensus

Noisy, overproduced, and thinly written, Green Lantern squanders an impressive budget and decades of comics mythology.

Whenever this Lantern returns to terra firma (too often), its imaginative flights are ground down under the Warner overlords’ demographic-pandering heels. Go to Full Review

All the prancing about on a galaxy far far away where Hal [Ryan Reynolds] meets the other Green Lanterns, and the wise ancients, and a gigantic gruff sergeant-type who learns him his ropes is all a bit of a bore. Go to Full Review

Overcoming a personal tragedy, defeating various villains, and discovering his powers with a trendy soundtrack to guide his way, Reynolds’ Hal Jordan is plain as can be, even offensive in an age where this genre has elevated itself with dynamic films... Go to Full Review

Tony 04/15/2022 I love the GL, this was an ok film. See more J H @JVH_Mich 4h Difficult to immerse and enjoy with Ryan Reynolds playing the same Ryan from over played phone ads. The rest of the cast is good, but this was a difficult one for them to save. Approached as a comedy it probably fairs a little better. The amount of CGI and digital in this movie starts to wear you down as it goes on. Its too bad some of the major comic book storylines are depicted here as I began to bail on the movie half-way through. I'd rather another production and cast take on those critical moments in Lantern lore. They had great source material to pull from so I shouldn't blame them for attempting those scenes. I think casting just thought Ryan Reynolds would look good in a suit and is a known "actor" with his own audience. It's sad when superhero movies are created this way. The recent campaign of we owe Reynolds an apology and blaming it on FX budget or writing is sad. Unfortunately, when you look in Reynolds eyes its like the lights are on but nobodys home. See more Scott M @drmcleod 8h I think the only thing wrong with this movie is the complexity of the Green Lantern storyline from the comic books. It’s not your simple “here is a super hero” story. It’s complex. I’ll admit, the first time I sat down to watch this movie several years ago, I turned it off because it didn’t flow like the typical super hero movie so I had a hard time following it. However, since the HBO series “Lanterns” came out, I went back and watched the 2011 movie, was able to understand the Green Lantern concept, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The acting was good (unlike the rumors you hear), the special effects were great, especially for 2011, and the story was engaging. All in all, I really liked this movie. It’s not one of my all time favorites so I didn’t give it the 5th Star. Otherwise I give it 👍🏻👍🏻. See more Zachary H @ZacharylHumphrey 3d I don’t know why anyone ever hated on this movie. I first saw it when I was a little kid and immediately fell in love with the character now re-watching the movie years later it held up to everything I thought it was when I was a kid Hal Jordan will forever be my favorite character. I think it’s amazing for its time and I think it needs a second life. See more logan L @RT79790437 5d This has to be the most underrated movie I have ever seen. I genuinely enjoyed it and I actually liked the CGI in this movie. I really have no idea why it gets so much hate. See more mohamed A @thedarknight 6d one of the best DC movies 🎬 ever and it didn't got enough of credit See more Read all reviews
