Critic Reviews for Kid Cannabis
A rollicking tale of border-running teenage pot entrepreneurs based on the real-life story of Nate Norman.
Nate comes across as an insufferably arrogant twerp stupid enough to believe there's loyalty in the underworld.
Writer-director John Stockwell finds the perfect loose yet manic tone for his ode to weed, filling his script with mordantly pungent lines
The film works best when it shows Jonathan Daniel Brown's drug kingpin at his most inept and incapable, rather than elevating him to a pothead martyr.
Audience Reviews for Kid Cannabis
John Stockwell's Kid Cannabis is an entertaining drama with a few comedic elements about a high school dropout who made millions selling marijuana. Although this is far from a perfect film, and in fact it's really a standard drama where a guy risks everything to make a quick buck, only to lose it in the end. We've seen this type of formula before, and it's a bit predictable. Despite this, I really like the film and thought it boasted some impressive performances as well. Overall this is a good movie, with a good story, good direction and effective performances, this is a worthwhile film to watch if you enjoy a rise and fall story. The film doesn't cover new ground, but is a worthy viewing due to the fact that it's a little different that your standard "drug dealer film" because of the fact that the lead character deals in marijuana. At first the film starts off a bit slow, with a fun atmosphere, but it slowly turns up, and it becomes a much darker film as it moves along. This is among John Stockwell's best films and I liked how he tackled the subject. Even if the film is predictable, Kid Cannabis is nonetheless an entertaining ride that is aided with a good cast of talented actors that are very good on-screen. If you enjoy the genre, you might like this, like I said, it doesn't break new ground, but is a good addition to the genre and there are quite a few memorable moments. With a fine mix of drama, a few comedic bits and thrills, Kid Cannabis is worth seeing if you have nothing else better to watch.
Jonathan Brown pretty much made this flick unwatchable for me. This story could certainly been turned into a cool movie but unfortunately felt like American Pie 12 meets some rich kid who financed his own movie to star in it
It has it's moments that are pretty funny.
But I can't stand Jonathan Brown.
Who honestly thought he is a good actor or is worth the time.
