Angelina Jolie is perfect for the role of Lara Croft, but even she can't save the movie from a senseless plot and action sequences with no emotional impact.

Movie Info
A popular video game comes to the screen with this big-budget adventure starring Angelina Jolie as a buxom heroine recalling equal parts Indiana Jones and James Bond. Jolie is Lara Croft, a proper British aristocrat groomed at schools for the children of the elite. Croft leads a double life, however, as an acquirer of lost antiquities through questionable means, highly trained in combat skills with the help of a robotic opponent called Simon. Despite her exciting profession and a life of wealth

[A] movie based on a video game that's unafraid to look absurd but lacks the self-conviction needed to come off as camp.
A jerky, fragmented tale that jumps from one exotic location to the next without any explanation or flow.
Top CriticLoud, banal, empty, frenzied, plasticized, flavorless, drab, violent in a bloodless way and sexy in a sexless way.
In the department of numbing ineptitude, the pacing runs a neck-and-neck race with the dialogue.
So pandering and pebble-brained you'd guess it had been test-screened on barnyard animals.
There is more tension in Jolie's T-shirts than in the dramatic action.
Some great action sequences, but not much else.
So inferior as art and entertainment.
Stick to the games for true action, folks.
Even by video-game-movie standards, this is an arrogantly, almost smugly empty and incoherent mess.
All the world can blow up around Lara Croft--and it does here--but who cares when there's no reason to fear for her life?
It might be easier to list the things that were good about Tomb Raider, but little comes to mind.
Displaying boobs, brawn, and brain (in that order), Angelina Jolie renders a splashy perfromance but the movie, which is like a video-game turned big-screen entertainment, is not good; another missed opportunity to have a femme-driven action-adventure
Worth watching.
This would have been a better action movie if the last 10 minutes were replaced. Any computer-game player knows the last battle is supposed to be the toughest.
Let's face it, people going to see this movie expect two things: Lots of action and lots of slo-mo shots of Jolie running.
You never get any explanation of who these people are or why they do what they do.
Jolie kept her side of the deal, everyone else owes her big time.
Like her gaming counterpart, she's all pretty eye candy without much of a soul or even an interesting personality.
Ultimately, the film is set piece after set piece after set piece.... literally. One set at a time, one scene at a time.

Angeline Jolie is physically a perfect actor to play Lara Croft but there is something in his performance that is lacking a true charisma or humour. Jolie's main character ends up being a bit cold and distant as a hero. But overall she carries the film on her shoulders and most of the time she succeeds.
Some might find this film as a bit too noisy and too action packed, but i think that it is a nice combination of hi-tech action, old-fashioned adventure and a supernatural elements. Screenplay throws in everything from secret society illuminati to time-travel and life threatening monkey statues which comes alive. At times i did felt that in the writing department there was too many cooks in the kitchen. With more coherent storyline this could have been even something near great as an adventure film. It comes pretty damn close to be perfect entertainment but unfortunately it shoots in too many directions and cannot reach it's own ambition.
When it comes to production design, music or cinematography, Lara Croft - Tomb Raider, is an outstanding job. There are some gorgeous moments with nice addition of music in them. For example bands like Groove Armada, Nine Inch Nails and Chemical Brothers are used effectively here and the score by Graeme Revell is quite impressive mixture of different kind of musical styles and elements.
I think i was quite surprised that i liked this film as much as i did. I did not have that much expectations towards it when i went to see it and i was positively surprised. This is a good way to spend hour and a half and those who are looking for good adventure film will find it in this film. Recommended.
