A man finds himself torn between the love of his homeland, the love of his family, and the love of a woman in this period drama based on a true story. Robert Adams (Julian Adams) is a Southern gentleman who is helping to run the plantation run by his grandfather (Weston Adams) as the Civil War looms on the horizon. At a party, Robert meets Eveline McCord (Gwendolyn Edwards), a beautiful and intelligent schoolteacher from the North. Robert falls deeply in love with Eveline and asks for her hand

The film is passionately made, but its unapologetically romantic views of war and the Old South leave a bitter aftertaste.
It's easy to keep blaming Ken Burns for this kind of softcore Civil War porn, but enough is enough: This is a vanity project of the most indulgent order.
The story didn't seem interesting or compelling enough to be made into a movie. The acting was also way below what I expected.

First of all I'm a sucker for civil war dramas that promise romance so that right there drew me in. Nice true story but could have been done so much better. I give credit to the family for trying and there were a few good moments of elegant and beautiful cinematography.
