A wry joke appreciated by Don Siegel in a scrupulous study of the San Francisco topography
... Siegel makes it all about the killers and gives the film a matter-of-fact violence that gives the film a life of its own.
Don Siegel's early masterpiece.
Late film noir, with strange characters, and a time capsule look at San Francisco.
The plot has possibilities, but the execution is quite risible.
This film is noteworthy for its sadistic story, but what makes it rise above the ordinary B movie is the strangely provocative dialogue...
