Using newsreel footage, television kinescopes and out takes from political spots Nixon made as a presidential candidate in 1968, filmmaker Emile De Antonio creates a comic yet scathing portrait of the former President in this political satire. De Antonio landed on Nixon's infamous "enemy list" because of the derisive wisdom he supplied about one of America's most paranoid and pilloried politicians. De Antonio has no interest in depicting a balanced portrait of Nixon. Instead, he reveals a man that says nothing while speaking volumes, contradicts himself at every turn, and tries to appeal to the public as an earnest guy while ruthlessly scrambling for political power. Former friends, old opponents, and professional Nixon experts like James Weschler, Joe McGuinniss (THE SELLING OF THE PRESIDENT), and Jules Witcover (THE RESURRECTION OF RICHARD NIXON) all contribute interviews about Nixon that complicate more than illuminate the man. As represented through the portrait of Nixon, MILLHOUSE reflects a particular historical moment that would change the way American politicians would market their public persona for political office forever.
