Ever since he was a kid monster, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) has dreamed of becoming a Scarer. To make his dream a reality, he enrolls at Monsters University. During his first semester, he meets Sulley (John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. Sulley and Mike engage in a fierce rivalry that ultimately gets them both kicked out of MU's elite Scare Program. To make things right, Mike and Sulley -- along with a bunch of misfit monsters -- will have to learn to work together.

It is essentially Revenge of the Nerds, with fur. And scales. And whatever gooey, gelatinous substance comprises the outer coating of various other oddball creatures in this crazy parallel world.

Studios don't often seem to be thinking about the ideal moviegoer, just about the maximum number of moviegoers ... Pixar is no different in that regard, but even in this relatively fallow period ... it's never stopped thinking the most of us.

My favorite Pixar movie. While it is my favorite, that does not mean it’s the best, it certainly isn’t. On top of the continuity issues, I think it can be a bit boring at some points and drag on certain things too long. But that’s about the only bad I have to say about it. This movie is funny, it’s memorable, it’s entertain, it keeps you locked in at the most important parts. It really made me care, and also at some points it made me forget about the continuity issues. I was so compelled by Mike and Sully’s journey to friendship that I forgot about the fact that they met in the 4th grade and not college. Pretty solid Pixar movie, not the best monsters Inc movie.

After Cars 2, Pixar was never quite the same. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still capable of putting out bangers, but they didn’t use make movies like this so often. Monsters University is an enjoyable romp with a good sense of humor and fun, and it’s placed in a fun world with great characters. But it just feels so lightweight and unnecessary, like they took a direct-to-video concept and gave it a $200 million budget. If it was a direct-to-video spinoff, I think it would’ve made a fantastic one. But as a PIXAR FILM, it feels awfully lightweight and conventional.
