Movie Info

Seeking vengeance when his partner (Simpson) is shot full of holes by drug dealers, Lt. Frank Drebin searches for the Mister Big behind it all. Drebin suspects above-reproach shipping magnate Vincent Ludwig, but he can't prove a thing. Bumped from the force by the mayor, Drebin, with the unexpected assistance of Ludwig's ex-girlfriend, manages to nab the bad guy at a baseball game, where Reggie Jackson has been programmed to assassinate Queen Elizabeth.

Not quite up to Airplane! or Top Secret!, but there are still laughs aplenty.

The Naked Gun is crass, broad, irreverent, wacky fun -- and absolutely hilarious from beginning to end.

The endlessly tasteless juvenilia should make you ashamed of laughing yourself into a stupor.

High spirits may be all that a film like this really needs.

The film is as transparent as a third-grader with a water gun, and yet I would rather review a new film by Ingmar Bergman, for there, at least, would be themes to discuss and visual strategies to analyze.

The Naked Gun is still very funny more than 20 years later. Leslie Nielsen is awesome, and the gags are more hit than miss.

It would have been nothing without Leslie Nielsen, but this was one of the funniest slapstick comedies of the 1980s.

Bawdy, dumb-humor classic spoofs '80s cop dramas.

Nielsen in particular is superb, cracking his fašade for only the biggest of jokes.

The Naked Gun is a continuous stream of verbal and visual gags that come so fast, you don't have time to realize how bad/old/corny they are.

A comedy classic.

Nielsen perfectly embodies Drebin with the kind of deadpan seriousness that's essential to making well-written one-liners and situations seem ten times as funny.

A film like this is all about the comedy. The story is just an excuse to try and make you laugh the loudest they can. And it works!

Despite all the outrageous comedy and raunchy bathroom jokes, [the Zuckers] create endearing characters that are likable.

It's excruciatingly rotten in every sense: not funny, not comical, not entertaining, not even fun to look at.

Another great hit from the team ZAZ with the brillant Leslie Nielsen in his most remember role, or at least one of the most remember, Lt.Frank Drebin.

One of the funniest films to exist. This superb comedy proves that Leslie Nielsen is the King of slapstick. With so many laughs, this may most likely leave you with stitches from constant laughter.

THE NAKED GUN starts off as a real schlock. For a while, it seems like a generic slapstick cop farce, and only after about fifteen minutes does it become a work of ingenuity. There are so many scenes to love from this movie: Weird Al Yankovic's cameo; the student driver scene; the baseball scene when EVERYBODY is expectorating; the scene when the obese woman falls off the baseball stadium. Though none of the humor is predictable or forgettable, the baseball scenes that occupy the last thirty minutes may be by far the most classic. Not to mention the comically dark placement of "Louie, Louie".

The Naked Gun is the daddy of parody movies. Along with Leslie's previous film "Airplane!". Its usually the amount of slapstick that breaks comedy films. This film however is the rare film that is made by it.

    1. Nordberg: Drugs...drugs...
    2. Lt. Frank Drebin: Nurse! Get this man some drugs! Can't you see he's in pain?
    3. Nurse #2: [administers drugs]
    4. Nordberg: Frank, heroin...
    5. Lt. Frank Drebin: Uh...that's a pretty tall order, Nordberg. You'll have to give me a couple of days on that one.
