It goes quite off the rails of the original premise of Madagascar, but so did the 2008 TV show, and it offers enough fun and solid jokes to entertain enough. But it’s just not particularly memorable, doesn’t leave much of an impact at all, and I don’t care to ever watch it again. It’s not bad. Just not really my thing. See more Penguin O @Teepeetrailers Feb 17 Skipper: Kowalski, analysis! Kowalski: This film is near perfection, definitely better than the already-great main Madagascar films. If I must explain why, then I will. The humor is just so good, the characters are all really interesting, the plot of intriguing, there is a good emotional part, the animation is some of the best out there (Why did you stop doing films looking this real, Dreamworks?!), and...the music by Lorne Balfe is Top Notch. Skipper: That's music to my ears. And the bad news? Kowalski: It wasn't a big box office hit, so it never got a sequel, and it also made PDI have to shut down. It was only a matter of time before... One thing is the title, the "… of Madagascar" part. Yes, they were in that film. Yes, less people may have seen it than not had the title simple been Penguins. And yet, no. The other thing I do not like is that Private is treated poorly… for ten years. Yes, they adore him, yes, they break into Fort Knox to get him Cheesy Dibbles and yet… Skipper treats him like a kid for a decade? It’s kind of cruel considering he verbally articulates his aspirations and is ignored. Are Rico and Kowalski complicit? Yes, they are. Well, Rico is an inarticulate savant. Kowalski often prods Skipper with truths. Sadly, the story and its outcome hinges on Private being recognised as an equal only after winning the day. He has more in common with Dave. Perhaps that’s the point: Don’t rebel against being ignored and become a vengeful psychopath – shut up, stay in your lane and one day you may get a chance to shine. See more Read all reviews
