The fault ultimately is in the Polanski screenplay which overlooks character for effect, disastrously. Involvement is absent; all is surface and it is a smooth one, without the shimmer of the evil that is within.

Rosemary’s Baby takes the little flap of cuticle and peels it all the way up to the elbow. It was clearly the inspiration for many movies and moviemakers since. While watching this, I kept drawing parallels with Hereditary.

A well paced and written piece of classic horror, however, it was what I was expecting. I guessed that the old couple would be evil to some extent. I suspected the husband had made some sort of bargain with the Castevets to secure his role in the play over Baumgart fairly early in the film. You get the idea. Nonetheless, the director did an incredible job creating a claustrophobic atmosphere, with the score enhancing moments of apprehension perfectly and close up camera angles instilling a chilling sense of no escape. The telephone box scene in particular sent shivers down my spine! Would definitely recommend this movie to anyone comfortable with blatant nudity and loves a ssllooowww burn.
