Critic Reviews for Safety Not Guaranteed

Plaza and Duplass are enormously watchable, and there's a sweet sadness in the movie's focus on lost dreams and missed chances, and the truism that we all long for a time machine every once in a while.

Plaza and Duplass do great, believable work, and it's a debut that both writer (Connolly) and director (Trevorrow) can proudly hang their hats on.

What garbage cinematography! I'd gladly donate $10 to buy them an [expletive] tripod.

It's just about everything you'd want in a summer movie, combining elements of romance, science fiction and comedy juiced with an element of frat-boy attitude.

Audience Reviews for Safety Not Guaranteed

½

A personality piece of a sci-fi story: a guy advertises for a partner to go time traveling with. An indie rag decides to look into the possible story by sending one reporter and two interns to look into it. What's really up for grabs though is the idea that all of us have the experience of the-one-that-got-away, the regret inherent with that, and the consideration: would we go back if we could? It's a personality piece cause that's what keeps us in the tale, the personalities involved, and not the time travel angle at all. It's not bad at all.

Got to admit, nearly gave up on this early on. Glad I persevered.
Strange little movie about an unlikely pair getting together. I was so happy with the ending as I really feared it was going to turn out the other way and I si didn't want it to. Yes, this movie got me to care!

An adorable indie movie with charming characters (Plaza and Duplass have a great chemistry together), but it almost gets ruined by how Jeff's subplot is discarded without much thought into it and by a disappointing end that comes off as meaningless and inconsistent.

Darius: Do you sell guns here?
Kenneth: What kind of guns?
Darius: I don't know. Something sexy, and affordable, with killing power.
Kenneth: You should try C&R Guns in Welkins. The state of Washington does not allow the sale of firearms on the business premises of a grocer.
Darius: Hmm. What about those thingies, with the spikey ball at the end of the chain...thingies, you know, do you have those?
Kenneth: What exactly is the intended use? Is there a pest problem or hunting?
Darius: Well if your ad had been written properly I might have a better idea of what I need.
