Mar 12, 2013 The local movie theatre had a Chinese film festival and this was one of 6 films that they hosted. I must say I really enjoyed it. I actually thought it was much older maybe based on the cinematography, how certain frames were stitched and generally how dopey the whole cast, plot, props and scenes were. But you have to admit there were some amazing choreographed scenes. Even though you know the opponent is a foot away and they're clearly not making any contact, there's still a fluidity and grace to it. I'm glad they even included women fighting. The "bad guys" didn't hold back. Girls want to play with swords well so be it. The story follows a young man, Lin Hai Nan, who is a fighter but the source of his skill is unknown. He defends a troupe of performers against some tyrannical ruler and his son. In the process he befriends the group as they hide him from this evil leader. When members of the troupe are sacrificed in the process, Lin Hai Nan chooses to strengthen his body and skills in order to triumph over a man who has maimed and killed his new friends. There's not a lot of back story or substance but it makes for a very amusing flick if one was ever interested in this genre.
