A solid conclusion to the franchise, though I wanted more. The story follows the crew as they infiltrate the Capitol, navigating tunnels filled with game-like obstacles — mutant zombies designed to hunt them down. Finnick is a welcome addition to the team, which makes his death hit harder. The best twist comes late: Snow reveals to Katniss that it was Coin, not him, who ordered the bombing that killed the children — including Prim — to eliminate the last of his loyalists. The fact that Gale helped engineer the bombing strategy stings. Katniss's response is the film's most satisfying moment: she aims at Snow and shoots Coin instead. Snow's actual death — trampled by the crowd — felt like a letdown after everything. But the ending lands; Katniss and Peeta finding their way back to each other felt earned. Not terrible, but nothing really noteworthy. --- (Storyline/Plot: 2.5/5) Agonizingly predictable. Nothing was a shock in the slightest. Very week ending. --- (Acting: 3.25/5) It was OK. But it should have been better than previous. Definitely a regression here. --- (Character Quality: 3.25/5) Same as above. Definite regression in character quality. The writing just seemed lazy for some reason. --- (Entertainment Value: 2.5/5) Very slow. When it was exciting it was only for moments and with the previous ratings in this review they could not prop this one up. --- (Expectations vs. Reality: 2/5) After part 1 of the finale this film fell flat and unfortunately my bar had been increased again. See more Matthew D @OceanSage May 29 Francis Lawrence’s teen sci-fi action film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015) is a fine finale to a great YA series. Jennifer Lawrence is wonderful as the heroine Katniss Everdeen. She puts the weight of the world on her capable shoulders with emotive acting and stalwart bravery in the face of danger. Josh Hutcherson is great as the brainwashed Peeta Mellark learning to love again. Liam Hemsworth’s conflicted feelings are apparent as Gale Hawthorne. Willow Shields is as devastating as Primrose Everdeen as is Mahershala Ali as Boggs. I am sad to see Sam Claflin’s Finnick Odair go. I adore the gorgeous Natalie Dormer’s courageous camera director Cressida as well as the striking Jena Malone’s feisty Johanna Mason. Donald Sutherland is fantastic as he bows down as the fearsome dictator President Snow. Julianne Moore is amazing as the coldly shrewd President Alma Coin. Philip Seymour Hoffman still gets some memorable moments as revolutionary tactician Plutarch Heavensbee. See more Read all reviews
