matthew d @Gooseo Jan 11 I missed this one in the 90s even being a fiorentino fan. But this one just didn't do it for me. It had good elements and a plot BUT...... I felt it just relied solely on the lead characters cruelty, viciousness, and sexual promiscuity to carry the movie and grossly disappointed with a poorly written ending that feels more like the rushed final page to a failing student's midterm paper. The wife beating character played by Bill Pullman is sadly the most sympathetic character. The fact that Double Indemnity is even referenced in this, is offensive. Peter Berg's character is neither relatable or remotely comprehensible. There could have been a decent movie in this but every turn made to try to make it interesting is either clumsy or dumfoundedly confusing. I hate myself for having seen this. See more Simon T @Bucksplit Aug 30 If Linda Fiorentino wasn't such a cracking actress, it would be a real challenge to stay the course with this amoral femme uberfatale as she plots and schemes. Fortunately she is, and John Dahl's neo-noir is a hoot, negotiating the serpentine plot with wit and speed, and flavouring the darkest moments with a mordant humour. Joseph Vitarelli's terrific jazz score is the cherry on the cake. See more Glen H @RT70111130 Jul 29 A modern classic that's only dated by its "erotic" elements. Florentino and the cast are pitch perfect. But Dahl is the driving force behind this and all his other excellent neo-noirs. I just wish the ending felt a bit more believable. This is where Dahl's films tend to lose a bit of steam, where the believability of the character motivations take a bit of a stretch for the sake of the noir-driven conclusion.
