Robert T @Robertodeeto 4 days ago Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are basically two human train wrecks stumbling through 1970s Los Angeles, accidentally solving a mystery while fucking up just about everything else along the way. The dialogue is filthy, fast, and gloriously stupid in exactly the right way. Gosling's physical comedy alone deserves its own goddamn trophy. Every time you think he can't possibly make things more ridiculous, he finds a way. And Crowe plays the perfect exhausted bastard opposite him, like a guy who desperately wants to maintain some dignity while the universe keeps handing him Ryan Gosling. The result is a buddy detective movie with bullets, booze, conspiracies, broken bones, and enough dick jokes to make your inner twelve-year-old stand up and applaud. The Nice Guys doesn't reinvent the buddy-cop movie. It just gets drunk, punches it in the face, steals its wallet, and makes you laugh while doing it. Fuck subtlety. Give me more movies like this. Just let the director do their job and you're down for a special treat if you want to grab a laugh after looking at beautiful pictures every frame. The movie is so pretty, colorful. Everyone, the scenery, the cars, and the clothing look fantastic. It's as funny as a movie can be. These are two spectacularly damaged men who gradually become friends while attempting to survive a case that would be too complicated for Sherlock Holmes and far too stupid for Batman. Five stars. I laughed. I yelled at the television. I briefly considered becoming a private investigator. Then I remembered I have no investigative skills and would probably lose a fight with a coat rack.
