Movie Info

When the world's most irresponsible babysitter takes three of the world's worst kids on an unforgettable overnight adventure through the streets of New York City, it's anyone's guess who's going to make it home in one piece. The Sitter is a new level of twisted and debauched hilarity from the director of Pineapple Express, starring Jonah Hill. -- (C) Official Site

For every laugh offered by The Sitter, there are five minutes of boredom and at least one failed scene of would-be "dramatic" character building.

The Sitter is mediocrity at its finest; too boring to hate and too forgettable to get angry about. Save your money and rewatch Uncle Buck instead.

Anyone expecting The Sitter to be an especially memorable trip to the theater may just want to give their own babysitter the night off and stay home with the kids.

The Sitter is a mess because of a lot of things, but most of the blame should be focused on a lazy script that could have been written in a single afternoon.

An interesting example of the trailer being better than the film, not because it gave away all the good scenes, but because the scenes are only funny in a vacuum.

The Sitter is a pretty funny, absurdist 'worst babysitter ever' story that gives glimpses of serious commentary disguised by dick jokes and the David Gordon Green Pineapple Express & Your Highness ethos - without ever surpassing it's predecessors.

Hill has a natural talent for making any situation funny with his deadpan humor, but in The Sitter it only goes so far.

I'm a child of the 80s, as is Green. So his raunchy homage to Adventures in Babysitting did not go without notice. Unfortunately, it did not go with much laughter either.

A crass, but sweet nod to Uncle Buck, flavored with funny characters, a few sparks of drama, and a few too many cliches.

I don't think I'm too demanding. All I ask for in a comedy is that it be funny. And in "The Sitter," too often gross-outs and foul language substitute for humor.

Audience Reviews for The Sitter

The Sitter is a pretty bad comedy that just doesn't stand out. The way that the film is executed is using clichés and predictable storytelling. The film could really have been something funny and memorable, but it just fails in terms of effective comedic bits. Usually Jonah Hill is quite good, but here he's wasted on such a poorly made film. The film is nothing new and in terms of comedy, lacks anything that is truly funny. I didn't laugh one bit throughout the film, and I thought it was a poor attempt at comedy, and it failed to really entertain. If you're going to want a good comedy, you'll be disappointed by this film. Jonah Hill is wasted here, and he has made far better comedies than this. The film's biggest problem is that it relies on recycled ideas, and it waters down the jokes to a point where they're simply not funny. I was hoping that this was one of those underrated comedies, but it was not to be. This scraps the bottom of the barrel of screenwriting, and it's a film that's not worth investing your time in. Another thing I hated about the film was the fact that Sam Rockwell, who is one of my favorite actors, is also wasted here, and I wonder why he even accepted a role in such a pointless film. At least both Hill and Rockwell have standout filmographies, as this one is just a film that's forgettable among countless other great films that they have made. The Sitter is a poor comedy that just doesn't make you laugh, and it relies way too much on poorly constructed material that makes this film fail. Considering some of the talent involved, you'd expect this one to be mildly amusing, but it just is a train wreck that is not worth seeing.

Gets off to a promising start, but ultimately gets less funny as it goes along. I really liked the little girl character - she is hilarious. The El Salvador boy is a little stereotyped as is the gay roller skater. Not bad light entertainment, but Superbad is a similar type of movie which did this better.

I'm not sure the Sitter deserves all the slating it's received. It's no masterpiece but it has enough funny moments to enjoy. It's over the top and a bit silly but I think that's to its credit, I don't think it ever intended to be more than it is and compared with the majority of comedies released in the last couple of years it's definitely above average. I was entertained throughout. Adventures in Babysitting was a silly film too, for girls really, The Sitter is for boys I guess!?
