New York City roommates Peter (Tom Selleck), Michael (Steve Guttenberg) and Jack (Ted Danson) are all successful and happily unmarried, but Peter and Michael get the surprise of a lifetime when a young woman abandons an infant in front of their loft. They also receive a letter stating that the child, named Mary, belongs to Jack, but he's away on business. Michael and Peter are then forced to care for Mary -- and though they make hopeless babysitters, they soon become quite attached to the girl.

Like the French farce it's based on, Three Men and a Baby is too self-satisfied with scatalogical humor to qualify as a bundle of joy, but the role of makeshift daddy brings out the best in Tom Selleck.

The film works well despite its predictability, perhaps because of it. We can sit back and enjoy all the timeworn, sexist antics of three seasoned comic actors fumbling with formula and diapers, and a script that keeps its laughs on the dry side.

The charm, allure and hard work of the cast more than compensates for the structural gaps. Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg (and twins Lisa and Michelle Blair, who take turns playing the baby) interact exquisitely.

While it lacks the sinister mindlessness of the Three Stooges' variation on the same theme, the film tends to work, thanks to the strong teamwork, competently jazzy direction by Leonard Nimoy, and a real cutie pie of a baby girl.

Something got lost in the translation. In French, the story was charming. In English, it’s cutesy-poo. The movie makes this point: Babies are wonderful and they change your life. But didn’t you know that?

I absolutely loved that movie and watched in a private theater a few times. Sadly, they never finished the follow up. It gave fathers hope for getting custody. The music selection was spectacular. And the romance and daily struggles of juggling diaper duty were real. Definitely a must see for all ages.

When I agree to do comedy films, Three Men and a Baby is one of the films I were looking the least forward to reviewing. OK not THE least well we'll get to that one later. OK guys, I know my mum liked it and says it's a good film, but for me, I was crying my tears just looking at the baby. Ya know why? Because I love baby's, they're so cute. But it has some funny scenes in it. That's right, it stars Tom Selleck, that crazy Steve Guttenberg and last but not least Ted Danson. What else can I say, I like it. I just hope I don't cry all the way through the film.

Even 30 years removed from its release, the contrast of bachelorhood and quickfire parenting is funny to see when displayed between the three well matched leads....even when it briefly shifts into a crime hijinks film in the middle? The 80s were wild. Tom's stache was perfect, 5 stars.

Synopsis
