A brawny, entertaining spectacle, but lacking emotional resonance.

In terms of historical accuracy, Troy is probably on par with Van Helsing. But for balancing intimate stories with spectacular battles in an old-school-sized epic, it's closer to Gladiator. Go to Full Review

MC R @RT91491190 3 days ago I regret watching this after The Odyssey from Nolan. I can't give this after the masterpiece a fair chance. I was just comparing with Nolan. I think I should have watch this before I went in juli. But I tried really hard to gave this a fair chance and not compare. But it was hard, even Odyssey was about Odyssey obviously and after the events of Troy and Troy was obviously about the event itself and focused on Achilles. It was still hard to separate them. Odyssey was made with craft, great cinematography, incredible cast and felt poetic. But Troy was more an action flick. A lot of battle, like movies Gladiator and Lord of the Rings. But way lesser. In cinematography, storyline and the dialogue. The cast is not bad in names, but that's the problem. Some great actors and actress but they didn't fit in their roles. So it didn't stick the landing. So I gave it a chance. But was not impressed at all. See more Haseeb A @iamhaseebaslam 4 days ago Troy had been on my radar for years, but I never got around to watching it. With The Odyssey on the way, I started reading about the story and realised that the events of Troy set the stage for Odysseus’s journey. That was enough to move it from "someday" to a must-watch before The Odyssey. The scale is impressive, and the fight sequences are incredible. There’s a sense of weight to the battles that makes the spectacle satisfying, whether it’s armies clashing or two warriors facing each other. It’s the kind of film that makes you wish you’d watched it sooner. I did find myself wishing certain parts of the story had played out differently. Since it’s adapted from an existing tale, though, I can’t put all of that on the filmmakers. Some of it is simply wanting a different outcome for the characters. I watched the director’s cut, so I can’t compare it with the theatrical version. Taken on its own, though, it was an enjoyable watch and finally crossed a long-overdue film off my list. We loved the incredibly elaborate costumes, jewelry and hair, and the big, immersive soundtrack was a perfect fit for the epic scale of the story. It has some of the same flavor, and even some of the same actors, as Braveheart, which is a good thing. The only drawback was that the battle scenes eventually became a bit tiresome, and at nearly three hours the movie felt too long. See more Read all reviews
