He doesn't know it, but everything in Truman Burbank's (Jim Carrey) life is part of a massive TV set. Executive producer Christof (Ed Harris) orchestrates "The Truman Show," a live broadcast of Truman's every move captured by hidden cameras. Christof tries to control Truman's mind, even removing his true love, Sylvia (Natascha McElhone), from the show and replacing her with Meryl (Laura Linney). As Truman gradually discovers the truth, however, he must decide whether to act on it.

Thinking about The Truman Show in 2023, it’s clear the film—marvellously written by Andrew Niccol—was ahead of its time in some respects and doomed to be quickly dated in others.

The cinematography and the way it's beyond creative with the "hidden camera" shot choices, the moments that the audience & crew are introduced to show their reactions, the absolute PERFORMANCE that Jim Carrey puts on here... it all comes together to create a truly moving, and horrifying, film. I love that we don't know where Truman exits to. The future is up to him for the first time. And I also love how, the more you think about it, the more you realize what an absolutely horrifying reality he's about to walk into. He's about to enter a world where every single person knows who he is, but he doesn't know anything about the real world. He will never have a normal life, no matter how much love he discovers in the real world. Now I can't help but wonder what the audience is feeling watching me write this review, right now. Do you think they're cheering? Do you think they're on the edge of their seat, waiting for me to realize it's all just a show? …and ultimately, how’s it going to end?
