What to Know

Critics Consensus

Borrowing a basic storyline from the film that inspired it but forgetting the charm, wit, and heart, Vacation is yet another nostalgia-driven retread that misses the mark.

Wacky hijinks ensue, some of them very funny, some dipping desperately into bad taste, some just falling flat. (Which, it's worth remembering, was the case with even the best films of this franchise.) Go to Full Review

At its best, the film is very funny. At its worst, it makes you groan in dismay. Go to Full Review

Sweep the warm and fuzzy nostalgia aside, and the '83 model and this new one are comparable, mixing R-rated laughs with a semi-sincere message about the bonds that hold a family together. Go to Full Review

A kind of a cross between We're the Millers and Identity Theft without any real driving purpose, Vacation is an odious mix of tasteless humour and "teachable moments". Go to Full Review

Shock and gross-out humor has its limits, and these filmmakers go out of their way to explore those limits. Go to Full Review

Blake- N @RT32589154 1d I thought Vacation was absolutely god-awful. It tries to reboot the classic franchise, but it fails completely. The humor is crude, forced, and rarely lands, making most scenes painful to watch. Ed Helms and the rest of the cast do what they can, but the script is so lazy and unfunny that no performance can save it. The story feels cobbled together, with ridiculous situations that don’t add up to anything enjoyable. Overall, I’d give it a 1/10—it’s forgettable, messy, and a huge disappointment for anyone expecting a funny or charming comedy. It is childish humor funnier than the first. See more Amanda M @Aman_monterr Feb 22 Nunca me reí tanto con una película, es un poco tonta si, pero si se quieren reír, véanla.
