At some point in the late seventies someone thought , Is it possible to combine the stories of The Omen, The Bad Seed, The Birds, The Bible, Rosemary’s Baby, and Close Encounters of The Third Kind into one film? And what if our main character escapes their home planet Superman-style by traveling to earth in a small spacecraft? All this could be told to a group of bald children by a very blond Franco Nero as space Jesus. Unfortunately that is a few too many concepts to pull off and The Visitor isn’t really very creepy, or scary, or intense. But it does have a fantastic, lush late-seventies look and vibe. And there’s a plethora of well-seasoned actors placed throughout the film. I recommend it for the film-curious. It’s definitely not good, and I’m certainly not going to be flipping for it, still, it definitely stands out as something different but... I’m just not sure what. But this stinker is unlovable. Here are some of many reasons: -It will never ever make sense of any kind. -At least 30 minutes are shots of people doing nothing: standing, staring, walking for no apparent reason, standing, staring… -it takes place in Atlanta but isn't shot there at all (maybe two scenes) -Did I mention it doesn't make any sense? -and it's really boring? -tried to capitalize on The Exorcist with pretty mom and daughter with blonde hair and hazel eyes but it didn't work -if you are afraid of/champion of pigeons, the ending will pay off for you, so that's something -the only black peoples are 1) a butler and 2) literally everyone waiting at the hospital. -John Huston is self-aggrandizing in all aspects of this film - John Hendrikson does display the robotic sensibilities of his role in Aliens Don't waste your time unless you are well and truly stoned.
