Eli K @Eli22 07/21/2024 Can't put under List tag. See more David F @dfulmer 10/31/2023 More of a curiosity than an actual film. See more ArtystaPisarz 09/02/2022 Madman. Not in the actual, mental-health related sense of the word, mind you, but still – a cinematic madman. The story of how he ate his own shoe cemented me in thinking that Werner Herzog is what would happen if David Lynch was German. His love and concern for cinema is almost palpable trough this film, across space and more than four decades of time. His idea about the lack of adequate images for our kind of civilization id thoroughly intriguing, even if based on a kind of snobbish dislike of modern American pop-culture (just like Lynch). And as to the movie itself: it has about it the air of almost a amateur family vacation type of film-making, but at the same time it makes interesting points about Herzog's decisions by the art of selection. Still, it was not quite as I expected. I hoped, perhaps naively, that it will resemble a cooking show and will present more technicalities about the whole affair. Part of me still believes that "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe" would be better as a cooking show... See more 09/16/2017 This was funny and also surprisingly deep (in terms of thought behind the why). I liked the philosophical introspection by Herzog after and during the eating of the shoe. See more s r @ScottR 09/10/2017 Short and to the point. What a great headline. See more 10/25/2015 More an advertisement for Errol Morris' Gates of Heaven than actual shoe-eating, Herzog's ridiculous gimmick would've been better served by actually showing what the title promised instead of offering meandering thoughts about the nature of filmmaking and limp attempts at social commentary.
