Zatoichi (Shintaro Katsu) has settled back into a quiet life working as a masseur. His peace is not long, though, as his master begins to show signs of a disturbing mental ailment. Zatoichi attempts to hide his master's madness in order to save the lord's empire. Samurai seek the knowledge that Zatoichi holds, but the blind master swordsman easily defends himself and conceals the secret. When the villainous one-armed samurai (Tomisaburo Wakayama) seeks the knowledge, the secret and the blind masseur's life are both in jeopardy. Careful attention is paid to the continuity between stories. Lone Wolf and Cub fans will be happy to see Wakayma Tomisaburo in this installment, looking fifteen years younger and thirty pounds lighter

You can feel the character beginning to gel, as the careful balance between his superhero-like physical and mental prowess and the emotional tragedies he faces come more into focus
