A little look into the process of putting a face on your film. For "Zombie! Vs. Mardi Gras," the initial poster-cover (top right) was created by myself and Will Frank depicting Zombie! aptly enough as a godzilla-sized critter wreaking havoc on Bourbon St. The top middle picture was for the
unofficial release of Zombie! on VHS and to send out screener copies to distribution companies. I ended up taking actual stills we had shot from the movie and putting together a bit of a montage with Zombie's mug in the background and a certain 60's b-movie horror ambience surrounding the whole thing. Top left shows the official release poster and box cover art by Sub Rosa Studios. I had sent them several 8x10's including a few of "Mikey Jr." which was a latex cast head-torso i originally made for "Cut Up," (you will see him in the morgue scene!) and he is seen briefly in the Zombie rampage sequence towards the end of Zombie! Vs. Mardi Gras. So they decided to use his head and a photo of one of our "heroines" from the film. You can't tell but the photo of the dead girl on the cover is from a scene where Zombie! literally rips her right breast off and devours it. Fortunately she was able to get a silicone implant the next day. In any case the interesting thing to observe with this progression of Zombie artwork is that it goes from dynamic but complex to dynamic and very simple. I gotta say I still like the middle one the best, but hey i'm just the filmmaka' here! Hey i'm filmakin' here!
