The zombie comedy was hardly fresh territory when "Zombieland" came along (and really, will anyone top "Shaun of the Dead"?) but it nonetheless does a fine job of mining the humor inherent in the end of the world.

Still an absolute blast that holds up start to finish. This movie came out at the exact right moment when zombies were huge but before pop culture fatigue inevitably set in.

I thought this movie would suck, but I actually really liked it. I mean c’mom… a movie literally named “Zombieland?” It just sounds stupid, but it’s not! It’s really good and I would recommend it to anyone. 9/10

Zombieland is excellent because it mixes zombie violence and comedy so easily. It is gory, sarcastic, fast, and surprisingly light on its feet, giving the apocalypse a fun, self-aware energy without losing the threat completely. Woody Harrelson is the standout as Tallahassee. He is hilarious and fully committed, bringing rage, swagger, Twinkie obsession, and buried sadness to a character who could have been just a one-note tough guy. Jesse Eisenberg also gives the movie its distinct voice as Columbus, using the rules and narration to make the zombie world feel funny, organized, and personal. The Bill Murray cameo is one of the funniest and most memorable parts of the film, perfectly matching its absurd tone. The story is simple and not especially deep, but Zombieland is sharp, energetic, quotable, and one of the most enjoyable horror comedies of its era.
