Zoolander 2 (2016)

Critic Consensus: Zoolander No. 2 has more celebrity cameos than laughs -- and its meager handful of memorable gags outnumbers the few worthwhile ideas discernible in its scattershot rehash of a script.

Critic Reviews for Zoolander 2

Fifteen years after Zoolander . . . Zoolander No. 2 feels like an uninspired knockoff rushed into production to take advantage of the first film's popularity.

Zoolander No. 2 proceeds at a consistently hysterical pitch and, though it drags in parts, is worth watching for some genuinely hilarious moments.

Agonizingly paced and bewilderingly outdated, Ben Stiller's long-awaited sequel is a sad march through every single joke from the 2001 original.

Audience Reviews for Zoolander 2

A missed opportunity, Zoolander 2 squanders the use of its "new" cast, instead trying to ride on the coat tails of a largely forgotten movie.

It's not so much that the story is stupid as it is simply poorly paced with the final acts rushing into what feels like an impromptu reveal through an excess of exposition.

Too much screen time was wasted meandering in Derek and Hansel's self pity rather than setting up an elaborate plot that required a degree of foreshadow.

Cameos become watered down from overuse and much of the humor simply does not feel as fresh or clever as the original.

15 years wasted waiting for what only appears to be a massive disappointment

Zoolander 2 is a disaster from start to finish. I was a big fan of the first film, finding it to be a clever surprise that took the stupidity seriously. It had a fun premise with equally fun characters, and it gave plenty of hilarious quotes. But this sequel is just the absolute definition of a lazy attempt at a comedy sequel. None of the jokes land and the non stop cameos hurt my brain. And all the jokes they try and recreate in this film just didn't work. Ben Stiller keeps true to the characters idiocy, but while it felt lighthearted and fun in the last movie now it just felt awkward and cruel.

Zoolander 2 squandered it what with a really bad and messy script. It was a movie made up entirely of celebrity cameo appearances - Anna Wintour, Justin Bieber, Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss, and even had Benedict Cumberbatch doing an androgynous hot model, never minded the story telling. It was terrible.
