In 2048, police officer John Kennex wakes up from a 17-month coma without his girlfriend, his partner -- and without one of his legs. While Kennex survived a catastrophic attack on the police department, his partner, relationship and one limb did not. Now outfitted with highly sophisticated synthetic appendage -- along with depression, trauma on-set OCD and PTSD -- Kennex is persuaded to come back to work by longtime ally Capt. Sandra Maldonado. As all cops are required to work with a robot, Kennex must overcome his aversion to androids and get accustomed to his new partner: a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.

Critics Consensus

Almost Human presents enough action and humor to please both young watchers and fans of the sci-fi genre, but mainstream audiences may find it bland.

It was, at its core, a police procedural but it was heightened by the high-quality special effects, the heavy sci-fi, and the chemistry between the two leads. Go to Full Review

At its core, Almost Human boils down to a show about a mismatched pair of cops - in this case, Michael Ealy (who plays the android) and Karl Urban (who plays the android-hating human) - and the truth is, their chemistry is fantastic. Go to Full Review

What's most noteworthy... is how comfortably it fits alongside a certain type of forward-looking big screen effort both Abrams and others have been churning out lately. Go to Full Review

It's too early to tell where this series is going, but I'm not impressed. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Almost Human is more than just a name, but an overarching theme. Go to Full Review

Pairing cops with clashing personalities isn't a new thing. It's been done in every iteration, it seems, on stage as well as the big and small screen. Enter Almost Human, which puts an interesting - and explosive - spin on the popular trope. Go to Full Review

Lavish C @RT31524559 Aug 3 at first I was angry with Fox for "yet another sci-fi series canceled for no reason". They do have the CLEAR pattern of rising their prestige with new promising (rare) sci-fi series, getting money, and cancelling them with some bs excuse. But in this case I must say that the level of writing is ABYSMAL. Kindergarten level of naivety, full of plot holes and inconsistencies and an impressive amount of complete NONSENSE (and I'm not talking of "technically implausible" but NARRATIVE NONSENSE = plain and simple BAD WRITING). If they hadn't cancelled it, I would have dropped it. See more Alex S @RT23670095 Jul 25 This show is fantastic!! like Hawaii 5-0 crossed with blade runner. So sad it got cancelled! See more Kristyn M @Kenneth1984 02/01/2025 Great show a d well told. See more David W @Sternhammer 01/20/2025 Absolutely loved this on its release and was very dissapointed when it was cancelled after just one series. It has very good production values with some original and interesting special effects and an excellent synth based score. Acting is excellent by the two leads, who show a very good chemistry and the supporting cast are top notch The world building is very impressive with notes of Blade Runner and 2000AD's Judge Dredd. It's no surprise that Urban went on to be an excellent Dredd in the movie, which again deserves a sequel. Having recently rewatched Almost Human it's aged very well and remains one of those missed opportunity series that could have gone on to real classic status given a longer run, especially as the 'wall' concept was expanded upon. Very sad it was prematurely cancelled but at least one excellent series was left to enjoy. See more Simon F @RT88080268 11/10/2024 Why does Hollywood keep cancelling great tv shows like this one brilliant hidden gem See more Anthony T @tomscove 06/04/2023 What a cast, this could and should have been developed. It was a little formulaic and I bet with hindsight the creative team wish they'd taken more risk. It does feel like a lost opportunity. See more Read all reviews
