Critic Reviews for Boardwalk Empire: Season 3
Boardwalk Empire is worthy of your best bubbly.
(Cannavale's) talents are being used to portray a gangster would have Joe Pesci's Goodfellas hot-headed character Tommy DeVito rolling his eyes in dismay.
Hanging in there is very easy on a show with such dazzling production values, which turn the 1920s into a darkly lit dream, and such knockout performances.
One of the best things about Boardwalk Empire is how littered it is with characters that pull your eye and want you to invest more time with them.
This is still the role of Buscemi's lifetime, the likes of which this otherwise lifelong supporting actor may never see again.
The show feels more dangerous and more dramatically sound than ever.
The program finds its groove, with new rivals, shifting relationships and strained allegiances.
It remains the most ambitious show on TV with nothing to say at all.
The episode marks an engaging return for a show that escalated into a frenzy of outrageous shocks and plot twists last season.
With all due respect to the zombies, there's been no better show on Sunday nights this fall than Boardwalk Empire.
Boardwalk's blueprint of a slow-burn mini-mob movie each week might not grab viewers the way shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones do, but last season rounded itself out with some of the best and gripping TV of that year.
Boardwalk Empire is, in its third season, growing steadily stronger, shedding more of the flaws that hampered its freshman season.
There's still plenty to see on the "Boardwalk," thanks to the show's secondary characters.
If you feared the tension of "Boardwalk Empire" would fizzle after the shocking finale of Season 2, take heart. Season 3 is off to a roaring good start.
Nucky -- and Buscemi -- are finally getting more harrowing.
Nearly every plot element came neatly together by the end.
You've got to give Winter and his team credit for not playing it safe.
The HBO drama remains lavish, violent and twisty.
Chicago and some of its notorious sons play a bigger role than ever in HBO's superb Prohibition-era drama.
I feel we are in for a great ride this season.
Happy New Year, Boardwalk. We missed you.
It's a delicious development.
The show needed Gyp Rosetti.
A puffed-up show that drowns its myriad shortcomings in an ocean of booze and blood. It's the televised equivalent of an empty suit.
