Though it falls within a common sitcom template, New Girl brings laughter by spotlighting funny and genuine characters that are imperfect in relatable ways.

Luckily the hiatus has finally ended, and Tuesday's "Clavado En Un Bar" (Stuck in the Bar) brought the laughs.
It wasn't the most polished - or even the most nuanced - New Girl episode ever. But a second viewing that made for even more laughs than the first gives me hope that this season has somewhere to go.
kudos to the writers of New Girl for getting Winston to a place where he makes an impact. The question now is, where does Coach fit in?
The hilarious [Damon] Wayans [Jr.] is back for six episodes starting Tuesday, and the newly single Coach has his party pants on.
The issue is that this mode of crafting an episode is leaving the characters with no place to go beyond this all encompassing relationship.
I've worried about the direction [it] has...[taken some of its characters], with Schmidt turning heel and Winston going insane. "The Captain" kept pushing both of those angles and yet it was by far the funniest and most satisfying episode [yet].
[The] classic sitcom staple of the threesome [Cece, Schmidt and Elizabeth] relationship leads to some very funny situations.
What remains so enjoyable about New Girl is in the way the show allows its characters to be so outwardly, unapologetically broken.
[Deschanal's] adorkableness, to use a word I think I see retreating in the rearview mirror, knows no peer, and yet it's mixed with self-awareness and intelligence.
We did laugh at the episode...we're just hoping that now that Nick and Jess have returned to the loft, they'll all get back on solid ground.
His [Winston] development continues to be the show's great blind spot.
