Roadies are a largely underappreciated part of a concert. This comedy series, created by music industry veteran Cameron Crowe ("Almost Famous"), puts the hard-working individuals in the spotlight by providing an insider's look at the lives of some of the roadies for the Staton-House Band. Although they don't have the prolific lives and public scandals of the rockers who take the stage each night, there is still enough recklessness and romance to go around for the road crew. The roadies persevere through the issues they face in their personal lives to make sure the show goes on as planned every night.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Roadies' condescending tone, boring and underdeveloped characters, and lack of dramatic intrigue lead to a failure to rock.

As my panel of technicians note, Crowe gets some of the little things right, even if the series overall is a bit of a mess. Go to Full Review

Crowe can be corny, but he's never phony, and when the characters here drop into reveries about why they do what they do it's easy to buy them as passionate people who live in service of art. Go to Full Review

It comes off as unoriginal, repetitive, and frankly, a little condescending. Go to Full Review

Roadies is far too cynical an attempt at replicating bygone, heartwarming sincerity. Go to Full Review
Jane Bowron The Post NZ 06/14/2017
This is disappointing show-off schlock from the creative mind of Cameron Crowe, and the hipster ensemble of die-in-a-ditch for the ditties is as contrived as the mandatory group hug ceremony the roadies prayer-circle before each show. Go to Full Review

Instead of affecting and memorable television, you get an odd mash-up of workplace drama and romantic comedy, a bit like The Office with a much cooler wardrobe and a fraction of the laughs. Go to Full Review

B M @GlenFord 09/03/2023 Hard to understand the critics' low score on this one, but just as difficult to understand their high scores for progressive propaganda nonsense series that preach about gender, race, climate. Roadies is an excellent, heartfelt, beautifully told story with great characters, depth and understanding of the human condition. The backdrop is a crew on the road supporting a headline band, there is a ton of interesting music world trivia, but as with Almost Famous, it is so much more than that. I loved it. See more 11/05/2020 If you want To Feel like you are hanging back stage and supporting your fave band. This show is it. See more John S @RT71424423 07/02/2020 Moronic 'critics' again with typical idiocy trashed this exceptionally excellent show, which no doubt led to it getting cancelled. May they all rot for this and their many other transgressions against creative originality. Having thus ranted, I agree with the 86% of audience reviewers who thought it was superbly written, acted, conceived and executed, with a deep understanding of rock'n'roll, the road, friendship, romance, loyalty, family, america, oddballs and hard work. Just a terrific season and it so too bad for all concerned that there wasn't more. mindless critics with their 35% rating. grrrr. See more 05/14/2020 Petsonally, I found it illuminating, humorous and fun. It had its serious moments, stupid ones and light hearted one. All in all its a good show that simply didnt get enough views to warrent the second season I felt it deserved. The writing did fall away near the end though. See more 05/16/2019 Loved it from start to finish. It's not perfect but it's shortcomings are far outweighed by all of the bits that come out right. See more 03/24/2019 Critics are MORONS! Critics of anything are folks that failed at the art. Be it music, acting, film making, painting, etc...I will say that to 100% enjoy this series it takes a bit of knowledge of music/music industry/are or were a musician/worked in the music biz...But if you have! It's GENIUS! CC has done it again! See more Read all reviews
