The Walking Dead is an occasionally brilliant, always audacious show that can never escape the pitfalls of its own success.

Maybe the cycle is not identical each time - Dead is on its fourth season - but the images of so many undead heads bursting like red grapes only help to blur the inflection points of the narrative together.

Not the zombie show I signed up for until the mid-season finale episode. I mean seriously! Sure Walking Dead still has some exciting action and nail-biting drama but it all seems a bit watered down with all the talking going on during most of the season. There's so much time to talk, the gang now has a council to decide stuff because Rick is no longer in charge. I really kinda miss the old Rick. I just sort of feel that the season dragged on certain plots for a little too long and that I watched it out of loyalty rather than enjoyment.

(*spoilers ahead*)
Way too many characters that appear out of nowhere in the prison (where did all the old people go? did they all die of old age? zombie attack? no one knows.) and then conveniently get killed off when the plot calls for it. The whole subplot of a new virus infecting was a little bit too far-fetched especially when Hershel know just the what kind of medicine to cure the unknown virus and where to find it. (Anyone notice no matter how long the distances are, their cars never run out of gas; unlimited supply in gas stations I guess.)

The whole side-story of the Governor curiously finding a brand new family to call his own was a groaner (how did this family survive for more than a year in an apartment complex oblivious to the rest of the world is a wonder to me). The fact that the Governor manages yet again to convince a group of survivors to attack another group of survivors is even ludicrous. I understand how he could have lots of influence over Woodbury's citizens but now also over a brand new group? Come on! He manages to inconspicuously kill its leaders, convince everyone that he is apt to take leadership, and that they should attack an unknown group of survivors living in a prison because they will be safer there. Why doesn't anybody try to convince the group to... oh, I dunno, go someplace else, avoid confrontation, and eventual bloodshed? Logic seems to have gone out the door for the sake of action and continuity of the show.

Let's hope the second part of the season gets better.

Season 4 of the Walking Dead is focused on solving the mess created by the end of last season. The plots were completely pointless and the random one-off characters really made me grind my teeth in anger. Every single event that happened was to remove the over population thanks to Rick taking in the Woodbury residents. First of all, these people were all young and strong yet they didn't participate in the prison attack last season, somehow all the elderly disappeared. There's no organisation which lead to zombies wiping out an entire cell block. Epidemic was pointless again, just a way to kill off the Woodbury residents, the antibiotic hunt was pointless too, most of the infected died anyway and we all knew the main characters wouldn't die. Governor episodes were superficial and boring, I am seriously considering not continuing if it still stays crap through out the rest of the season.
