  • British screenwriter Patrick Kirwan's first movie assignment was 1937's Farewell Again. Kirwan was versatile enough to tackle the stiff-upper-lip histrionics of Drums (1938) the all-out melodrama of The Human Monster (1939), the wartime jingoism of Ships With Wings (1942) and the subtle emotional peaks and valley of The Captive Heart (1945). He also proved adept at comedy, as witness Dear Octopus (1948), Hotel Sahara (1951) and Rooney (1958). Patrick Kirwan remained active until 1961.
