...Secret Service could be perfectly watchable, with plenty of intrigue and surprises in its five episodes. But it’s criminally dour, completely forgetting that thrillers need wit to work. Go to Full Review

Secret Service doesn’t offer anything new. But it’s confidently paced and slickly directed (by the Oscar-winner James Marsh) and there are enough big things happening at regular intervals (murder, guns etc) to keep it all ticking over. Go to Full Review

It is very polished, but not much “fun”. Gemma Arterton is a talented actress, but doesn’t feel convincing as Kate Henderso Go to Full Review

Secret Service might be a little more old-school Le Carré than the cutting edge of The Capture, but that doesn’t mean it’s not chokka with fully committed characters and compelling twists that make for compulsive viewing. Go to Full Review

The whole cast wears pained expressions of irritation each time someone opens their mouth. It’s as if everyone is convinced that everyone else is an idiot. And perhaps they’re all right. Go to Full Review

This is an enjoyable bit of TV. The plot doesn’t go quite where you think it will, and the political angle is a nice means of getting something new out of a genre in which pretty much every idea has already been tried. Go to Full Review

Delia D @camila1691 Aug 3 Spy drama Secret Service was formulaic but Roger Allam and Ralph Spall improved it and I thought the surprise ending worked well. See more Georgina B @RT32659438 Jul 17 Excellent series looking forward to next series.one of the best i have watched.Keeps you wanting to know whats next. British make the best Spy shows See more Edward L @Glyndower May 25 Bog standard espionage series with little originality and the obligatory unpleasant teenage children of the main character. A waste of some good British actors. See more Per S @RT83737705 May 21 Mediocre standard spy series with wrong main character. See more NO N @RT15762147 May 20 It's not groundbreaking or mindblowing in any way, but I really liked it. Some seem to think it was slow and boring but I think the pace of it was a part of what I liked. I really appreciated that there there wasn't "bombs going off" every other second and that it didn't rush the plot. I liked the acting and the characters. Sure there was parts that didn't make sence but that is almost always the case. It made me care about the characters that were killed and that is something that's been lacking in a lot off shows I've seen lately. I liked portrayal off the main character and her husband. All the things they were not allowed to share and their quiet understanding and acceptance of it. I suspected the ending quite early on but it didn't take anything away from the suspense really. I guess the sum of it is that it's hard to find a needle in a haystack of policians and civil servants when everyone is dirty. The ending made sense and that is a big plus in my book. See more John R @RT06322187 May 18 Poor mans 'Spooks' with weak stories and characters (compared to Spooks) largely uninteresting and going through the motions really ! See more Read all reviews
