Saul Turteltaub was a writer for more than 20 television series, and a producer for 16 different television projects. Turteltaub earned his first writing credit in 1960 for "Candid Camera," for which Woody Allen wrote as well. After Turteltaub's next four television writing projects, he joined the writing team of the highly successful variety show "The Carol Burnett Show," writing 30 episodes in his tenure. He also took on the role of producer and writer for the television series "That Girl," later earning his only credits as a director for six episodes of the series. In 1971, he had a 48-episode stint as a producer for "The New Dick Van Dyke Show." As the show wound down, Turteltaub became a producer for the Red Foxx vehicle "Sanford and Son" in 1974. Continuing his streak of successful series, he became the executive producer for the hit show "What's Happening!!" for all 65 episodes of the series. While continuing his career through the next two decades, Turteltaub's workload began to lessen. In 1990, he earned his last executive producer credit for the made-for-TV movie"Close Encounters" and earned his last writing credit six years later for an episode of "Cosby." Saul Turteltaub died on April 9, 2020 in Beverly Hills, CA at the age of 87.
