Must Watch
[Crook] is fantastic at building not only a really original plot, you won’t see anything like this on TV this year, but also having humour that gets funnier every time it gets mentioned. Go to Full Review

Small Prophets is richly steeped in Crook’s glorious brand of gentleness, his ability to imbue the ordinary with extraordinariness. Go to Full Review

The blending of the mundane and the magical may not suit every palate, but this is clearly a labour of love for Crook. Elements of The Office, Detectorists, and his revival of Worzel Gummidge coalesce here. Go to Full Review
James Walton The Spectator Feb 20
As in Detectorists, the result has a winning blend of mild melancholy, calm acceptance of the way these people are and something approaching defiance about their right to be so. It is, in short, completely lovely. Go to Full Review

Crook’s way with characterisation overall is a marvel, an acute understanding of minor foibles that say a lot. Go to Full Review

Paul D @RT34122371 Mar 21 If you want your TV programs to be in your face hilarious with explosive action scenes this probably isn’t for you . Subtle humour with gradual character development is superb. Add a few touchingly emotional scenes and you have the full experience . If you loved Detectorists you will love this Mackenzie Crook has a unique talent for producing programs such as this and I hope he continues to do so.i See more Aidan M @Aidan77 Mar 20 One of the best things on TV this year. The premise is super fun and the story engaging. Crook nailed it. See more carltonjb B @RT32441775 Mar 17 Small Prophets is a quietly enchanting piece of television — a story that moves with the soft confidence of something handmade and deeply felt. Mackenzie Crook blends the magical and the mundane with such delicacy that the extraordinary feels like it has always lived just beneath the surface of suburban life. The writing is tender and gently funny, full of small human truths that glow brighter the longer you sit with them. Performances are beautifully attuned to the show’s rhythm, capturing its mix of melancholy, wonder, and kindness. What begins as a simple mystery unfolds into something far more soulful, a meditation on loneliness, connection, and the strange beauty of ordinary days. It’s warm, whimsical, and quietly profound — a series that lingers like a half‑remembered dream. For anyone craving storytelling with heart and a touch of magic, Small Prophets is a rare delight.
