American screenwriter Walter Woods inaugurated his film career in 1917. Among Woods' early credits were several Fatty Arbuckle features, including Gasoline Gus (1921) and Brewster's Millions (1922). Weathering the scandal that killed Arbuckle's career, Woods remained at the comedian's home studio of Paramount, working on such major releases as director James Cruze's Beggar on Horseback (1925) and Old Ironsides (1926). Walter Woods' association with Cruze extended into the talkie era with Universal's Sutter's Gold (1936).
