The Testament of Ann Lee (2025) 88% 2.5/4 EDIT “Seyfried brings the cra-cra. She aces the role of Ann Lee too, unafraid to show the full-bore obsession of the zealot’s fragile psyche. ” – The Establishing Shot Jan 20, 2026 Full Review The Housemaid (2025) 74% 2/4 EDIT “Some is played too straight, some performances are far too arch, and the script is all over the map, turning on a dime from reasonable to irrational at whim. ” – The Establishing Shot Dec 24, 2025 Full Review Marty Supreme (2025) 94% 4/4 EDIT “ The film is a droll yet constantly amusing character study, as well as a scathing critique of our nation’s hubris after we saved the world from fascism in 1945. Movies as metaphors don’t come much larger. ” – The Establishing Shot Dec 24, 2025 Full Review Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) 66% 2/4 EDIT “The entire enterprise here comes dangerously close to feeling cynical, like Cameron isn’t really trying to tell a great story anymore, merely milk his IP for all its worth.” – The Establishing Shot Dec 17, 2025 Full Review Make Me Famous (2021) 100% 3.5/4 EDIT “In some ways, Brezinski’s greatest artistic creation was the bad boy image he painted for himself during his time in NYC, even if it was then and now, a rather unflattering portrait.” – The Establishing Shot Dec 10, 2025 Full Review Hamnet (2025) 86% 4/4 EDIT “The acting, clothes, makeup, and cinematography all feel so real and rustic here, we’re not only placed wholly in this community and period, but in the very psyches of the tragic characters we’re watching. ” – The Establishing Shot Nov 28, 2025 Full Review Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025) 92% 3/4 EDIT “One genuine and welcome surprise here is that despite its setting, the film ends up being quite positive in its attitude towards God and faith.” – The Establishing Shot Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Sentimental Value (2025) 97% 4/4 EDIT “Perhaps the greatest humor in the film comes from the fact that for all the angst in the plotting, it brings everyone in the family closer together.” – The Establishing Shot Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Eternity (2025) 77% 3/4 EDIT “It’s romantic without being blind about the realities that affect a couple. And it seems more down to earth than most (rom-coms), which is saying something considering that most of the story takes place in the afterlife.” – The Establishing Shot Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Wicked: For Good (2025) 66% 4/4 EDIT “Grande is phenomenal, giving a performance that is chock full of nuance, charm, fear, and tragedy. She uses her voice, body language, pauses, and those large doe eyes of hers to convey hurt palpably throughout.” – The Establishing Shot Nov 21, 2025 Full Review Jay Kelly (2025) 75% 2.5/4 EDIT “ A lot of the film works as it strives to paint a sad and moving story about the cost of fame, but too often it gets in its own way by having Clooney be so much like Kelly, and vice versa.” – The Establishing Shot Nov 17, 2025 Full Review Nuremberg (2025) 72% 2.5/4 EDIT “Like some of the heavy-handed symbolism Vanderbilt leans into, he also relies heavily on screenwriting crutches to move the story along: titles explaining updates, newsreel footage, even characters carrying a lot of expositional dialogue. ” – The Establishing Shot Nov 7, 2025 Full Review Die My Love (2025) 74% 2.5/4 EDIT “The film is easy to admire for its art and bravery of its participants, but sadly, much less so for the unrelentingly disheartening and ugly tale at its core.” – The Establishing Shot Nov 7, 2025 Full Review Hedda (2025) 89% 3/4 EDIT “DaCosta knows how to dramatize, put the money on the screen, and get the best from her cast. And in Tessa Thompson, she has an actress in the legendary role who gives one of the year’s very best performances.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 29, 2025 Full Review The Secret Agent (2025) 98% 4/4 EDIT “The details throughout, from the costumes to the production design to the Panavision lensing, give this period piece a vivid sense of authenticity, almost as if it was all filmed during the 1970s as well.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 26, 2025 Full Review If I Had Legs I'd Kick You (2025) 92% 2/4 EDIT “While watching Byrne work, you might want to give her an Oscar. As for her character, you might want to give her a vacation, a do-over, or maybe even a kick in the pants.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 22, 2025 Full Review Franz (2025) 71% 3.5/4 EDIT “It's grounded in its historical events yet countered by imagery and flights of fancy capturing the essence of Kafka’s playfulness. It might just be the most idealistically-matched biography subject and film style since "All That Jazz" or "Loving Vincent."” – The Establishing Shot Oct 22, 2025 Full Review Bugonia (2025) 88% 4/4 EDIT “It’s not only a sharp and timely dark comedy that sets its satirical sites on corporate America, internet conspiracies, and the healthcare crisis in the nation, but it is so bold and brazen, it’s breathtaking. ” – The Establishing Shot Oct 22, 2025 Full Review Frankenstein (2025) 85% 2.5/4 EDIT “Del Toro nails most of Shelley’s tone and moralizing too, making this adaptation ultimately quite fulfilling.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 16, 2025 Full Review After the Hunt (2025) 37% 1/4 EDIT “None of it gels. Instead, it’s heavy-handed, pretentious, stridently acted, and irritating as hell.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 10, 2025 Full Review Kiss of the Spider Woman (2025) 77% 4/4 EDIT “ A cinematic experience waiting to be cherished.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Anemone (2025) 53% 3/4 EDIT “It’s a tough and mean movie, but beneath all the off-putting machismo and pride of its onscreen men is a loving, beating heart after all.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 3, 2025 Full Review The Smashing Machine (2025) 70% 2.5/4 EDIT “You expect Johnson to be able to fulfill the physical demands of playing a professional athlete like Kerr, but what you don’t expect is for the scenes outside the ring to showcase Johnson’s talents even more.” – The Establishing Shot Oct 3, 2025 Full Review Good Boy (2025) 90% 3/4 EDIT “Indy is not just a good boy; he’s a terrific actor.” – The Establishing Shot Sep 30, 2025 Full Review One Battle After Another (2025) 94% 2.5/4 EDIT “It starts at an 11 in gonzo energy and pacing and only goes up from there. At times, as pathos and graphic bloodletting get woven in, the film encounters tonality hiccups. Still, it's fascinating to watch in all of its excess.” – The Establishing Shot Sep 25, 2025 Full Review
