Simon T @MovieTart 1d David Jones' engrossing adaptation of Kafka's The Trial is studded with good cameos by a vast ensemble of excellent actors, and gains immeasurably from being shot on Prague locations. Josef K disappears down several legal rabbit-holes as he fights his arrest on trumped up charges. Really this is Alice in Wonderland, and in particular Jonathan Miller's brilliant TV version, with a similar comic loopiness and perverted logic. Kyle McLachlan perhaps lacks the growing panic of Josef, but is otherwise fine, and Carl Davis' score is a terrific addition. If I could take the Prague scenery in this film and combine it with the directorial talent of Orson's film, that would be a fine thing. See more 11/02/2014 I think the only thing this movie does wrong is insufficiently communicating to the audience that it is surreal allegory, not necessarily to be taken at face value. Also great acting performances by Kyle MacLachlan and Anthony Hopkins accompanied with beautiful music and a nice scenery of Prague! The Trial (by Franz Kafka) is my favorite book and if you haven't read it yet, then at least watch this movie. See more Read all reviews
