Well made but hopelessly dull...

Reel Film Reviews

From the start, none of the characters you are presented with have likable qualities, so it's extremely hard to care when any fail, or don't get what they want

Laced with a lush, foreboding sense of noirish upscale LA surroundings, but excessively detailed too much information hot sex on the menu and little psychological insight going on above character collarbones.

A complex, difficult, intriguing film that digs deeper than outward appearances.

Audience Reviews for The Human Contract

Pinkett Smith extends the range of things she isn't any good at doing into writing/directing. The movie looks decent enough but 30minutes in when nothing has happened and the characters remain undeveloped you begin to realize there is no substance or point to the whole thing. Actors are wasted in bland roles as their character seemingly just do things for the sake of it.

Good first time directional outing from the Smith family with this one. Paz Vega tries a little too hard to be Penelope Cruise....The story is a little odd and on the eve of winning a five billion dollar contract the leading ad man of the firm (Clarke) goes mental and ruins it all. You just wouldnt...

When I found out that this was Jada Pinkett-Smith's directorial debut, I was curious. Curious because I never heard of it being in the theaters. I was even more curious that no one I knew had even heard of it. So, while making my thrice-yearly Blockbuster run, I saw it on the discount rack. The pictures on the cover were clear and stylized, and the graphics looked decent. I thought "F*ck it. I'll support Mrs. Smith". *Sigh*. It wasn't a bad movie. But.... it just made no sense. Paz Vega (the rich man's Penelope Cruz) plays some strange chick who's just, f*cking STRANGE. She gets involved with some dude who has serious anger issues and likes to smack people around. Jada plays violent dude's sister. Her role is completely insignificant, as though she simply wanted to remind us that at one point she thought she could act. And that's it.... The movie is very sexy and has good cimenatography, but I was left thinking "What the hell?!?" In truth, it was a well-executed waste of time. Methinks that Jada Pinkett-Smith needs to get a new hobby other than being Will's wife. And not 'Wicked Wisdom', her rock group. She sucks at that too.
